Caring Campus Network – Spreading the Word and Balancing the Workload

Our first Caring Campus Network webinar was a huge success, with over 150 attendees! The webinar included discussions about successful Caring Campus implementation and advice on how staff can capitalize on the momentum of Caring Campus within their current workload led by Hinds Community College Director of Organizational Development Dr. Gay Saxon and Copper Mountain College Caring Campus Liaison Jared Zwicker.

The Caring Campus Network & Academy – View the Webinar

You are invited to learn about the new Caring Campus Network and the Caring Campus Academy as presented in this month’s webinar.

Caring Campus is a culture-changing effort embraced by senior leadership at college campuses across the U.S.. Results include increased student connectedness, and a sense of belonging. Students who feel more connected to their college show higher rates of retention, persistence and completion of their academic goals. Caring campus results also include improved staff job satisfaction, and better relations between staff, faculty, and leadership.

Caring Campus Toolkit Webinar

The IEBC Caring Campus Toolkit Webinar on August 2 included an outstanding presentation by Dr. Kelly Becker on the use of data in understanding impact.  Dr. Becker,  Assistant Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness and Strategic Planning at Oakton College in Illinois,  shared their experience collecting, analyzing and using data to understand the impact of their Persistence Project, aka Caring Campus.

The second part of the one-hour webinar was a review of the “Caring Campus Toolkit: A Guide for Monitoring and Assessing Implementation and Impact.” The Caring Campus Toolkit is designed as a helpful guide for Liaisons or Researchers at any stage of Caring Campus implementation.

Faculty Caring Campus Roundtable Well Received

IEBC’s Faculty Caring Campus Roundtable on April 28 received excellent feedback from participants. Presentations by Kristen Cornelius of Delta College, Michigan, and Michelle Francis of West Valley College, California, shared examples from their successful implementation of Caring Campus, including sustainability and situational fairness. In small breakout groups, participants discussed their experiences. They shared best practices and discussed the successes and challenges of implementing Caring Campus at their colleges.

A recording of the Roundtable is now available for viewing. IEBC hopes you will take the time to watch and share it with others who might benefit.

IEBC encourages you to make connections with other Caring Campus faculty around the country to learn from each other about how colleges are implementing Caring Campus.

Presidents Roundtable #2 – Leading Culture Change

Presidents from Caring Campus colleges across the U.S. participated in a virtual Roundtable that focused on culture change and sharing and learning from each other.

Leadership commitment is an essential aspect of institutionalizing culture change. Participants heard from college leaders who have embraced Caring Campus to create a more supportive and welcoming environment for students and employees.

Meghan Hughes, President, Community College of Rhode Island, leader of New England’s largest community college, shared her experience with Caring Campus with a focus on Institutionalization and Sustainability.

Loyce Brown, Director of Human Resources at Delta College, University Center, Michigan, provided the staff leadership perspective on How College Presidents Can Support a Caring Campus.

Caring Campus Liaisons Share Successes, Tips in April Roundtable – Now Available for Viewing

Liaisons from Caring Campus colleges across the U.S. participated in a virtual Roundtable event to share and learn from each other. The April 28 “Connections: Liaisons Roundtable #2” was based on Liaison feedback and focused on Caring Campus topics most helpful in their daily roles.

Attendees heard from fellow Liaisons about success stories and resolving challenges.

The “Professional Classified Staff Front and Center in Improving Student Success” one-hour webinar presented December 10, 2020, made a powerful impression. Almost 500 participants heard impactful insights and experiences shared by a college president and professional staff engaged in Caring Campus, demonstrating how the human connection changes culture and is key to retaining students and improving student success.
