Dr. Bola King-Rushing, as Associate Vice President for Caring Campus and Caring Campus Coach, works closely with Vice President Ken Sherwood on the Caring Campus program and development and management.

He has spent most of his career in the California Community College system. He started as an Instructional Technologist in the Ventura County Community College District, where he helped bring about the implementation of several innovations in both technology and institutional culture. He created Oxnard College’s Department of Instructional Support Services and served on the inaugural leadership team for the district’s Institutes for Teaching Excellence. After several years supporting student success as a staff member, he moved into teaching and has taught writing, literature, and critical thinking at multiple colleges and universities.

Dr. King-Rushing has been deeply involved in institutional leadership in many different ways. At Oxnard College, he served at various times as the Classified Senate President, co-chair of the Community Outreach & Events Committee, faculty chair of the Distance Education Committee, and co-chair of the Technology Strategic Plan Task Force, in addition to work in many other governance groups at the college, district, and state levels. He is also a past Vice President of the River Oaks Academy Board of Directors.

He earned an interdisciplinary Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in English with emphasis in Technology and Society. Dr. King-Rushing is also a graduate of the Ventura County Leadership Academy, a Gevirtz School of Education (UC-Santa Barbara) Fellow in Composition, and a HASTAC (Humanities, Arts, Science, and Technology Alliance and Collaboratory) Fellow.
