Colleen Hartfield is President of Hartfield Creative & Consulting,  She spent 37 years working at Mississippi’s two largest community colleges, serving on the executive leadership teams at Hinds Community College and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

At Hinds and at Mississippi Coast, she directed public relations, communications, marketing, recruiting, adult education, grants, board relations, and legislative affairs and also served the statewide community college system as a legislative liaison. She was Vice President for Community and Institutional Relations and Governmental Affairs at Hinds and at Mississippi Gulf Coast.

After retiring in 2016, she returned to Hinds as Executive Assistant to the President for Special Projects, continued to serve as a legislative liaison, directed the nation’s largest Predominantly Black Institution (PBI) federal grant, and served as the IEBC Caring Campus Liaison for the college.

Upon her second retirement from Hinds, she established Hartfield Creative & Consulting to work with higher education institutions and other entities dedicated to improving the lives of Mississippians.

Hartfield currently serves on the board of directors for 2nd Chance Mississippi, which supports adult education students at community colleges, and on the Mississippi Balance of State Continuum of Care Governing Council, which is devoted to homelessness prevention.  In 2015, she received the Leadership Award from the Women in Higher Education, Mississippi Network.

Hartfield earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Southeast Missouri State University. She also completed the Mississippi Community College Leadership and Education Policy Fellowship programs at Mississippi State University.
